What is Safe Driving?

Safe driving takes time to learn. At a minimum it is obeying posted speed limits and paying full attention to the road. SafeDriver® is designed to make the driver accountable for their performance and promote safe driving. As a parent you will know how your teen has driven.

Examples of how SafeDriver® can promote safe driving habits:

Maximum Speed

Speed is involved in 38 percent of fatal crashes involving male drivers ages 15 - 20.*

SafeDriver® shows maximum speed for a given trip. Your teen has to think twice before driving fast or you will know.

Distance Traveled

About two-thirds of fatal teen crashes involve driver error - making mistakes due to inexperience and distractions.*

Many parents limit the use of the family vehicle. This is a good idea. As with any new task it takes practice over time to become proficient. Driving 1000 miles (or km) in a day is far more risky than spreading that out over a month.

Sudden Brakes

A teen driver's fatal crash risk increases by three to five times if there are two or more passengers in the car.*

SafeDriver® shows any brakes that suddenly reduce the speed of the vehicle by 15 mph (25 km/h). This can indicate your teen was distracted (caused by cell phone use, texting or talking to friends) or driving too fast on local roads. If they are going fast on a local road they will most likely have to stop fast too.
